The Ideal Hospitality Leader:
I believe a leader in the hospitality industry should be helpful in the manner in which they manage their subordinates as well as how they interact with their clients. I believe a hospitality leader should be experienced in multiple areas of the hospitality industry in order to truly understand how the industry works and to gain knowledge through those experiences. I believe a hospitality leader should be confident in their decisions and stern with their answers. In order to succeed, I believe a leader should also be well organized and determined to accomplish the necessary tasks. Working in a fast-moving, always changing environment, it's important to stay organized and on your game, ready to adapt to ay new environment and take on any new task. In my opinion, a great hospitality leader also has the ability to go above and beyond in order to create a experience for their client that is truly unforgettable. And the biggest characteristic of all, I believe a great leader in the hospitality industry is well networked through as many channels as possible. The more people you know in the industry, the more informed you will be and the wider variety of connections as well as information you will gain which will benefit your business and your clients.

Career Goals:
Long term: My dream career in the long-term would be to open my own event planning business in which I can plan and execute million dollar events.
For the longest time I hadn't known what my ultimate end goal was until this semester. I thought to myself owning my own company would be too hard and there's no way I would be able to get my name out there and begin my business. However, after hearing multiple guest lectures of past SDSU Alumni who have succeeded in creating their own event planning business, I do believe that with the experience and knowledge I hope to gain within the next few years, I will be able to ultimately reach my goal of opening my own company and being successful.
Short term: After graduation, I plan on working for a small event company in which I can gain experience and knowledge in the events industry and learn how the actual event planning process takes place.
In order to reach my end goal, I do need to gain that experience necessary to become a successful event planner. Therefore, by apply to work for other event planning companies, I can gain the experience I need while also applying lessons I learned from guest speakers as well as creating my own lessons learned while working in the industry. In order to achieve this goal, I will have to think about what makes me stand out over other candidates, why I am deserving of the position, and how I can add value to the company in which I want to work for.

Simulation 1: Conquest Air
During this simulation, I was definitely a little more on the shyer side. I am a quiet individual who usually keeps my thoughts to myself and only speaks when necessary, therefore, I did find it slightly difficult to perform well during the group discussion in class. Even though I tried to push myself and speak a lot during the discussion, in other people's perspective I wasn't talking much. I learned from my industry accessor that I am a "thinker" and tend to first listen to what others have to say, think about what I just heard, phase what I am thinking in my head, and then speak my input out loud to the group. My accessor also stated that I was well prepared and an attentive listener during the group discussion. I believe I contributed well to the group by completing my designated tasks, replying to all messages, and attending all group meetings. In the end, I had learned a lot about myself I hadn't really thought of before and had realized that I am very quiet (to others) and need to speak a little louder to be heard.
Simulation 2: 4thebiz
During the second simulation, I felt I had improved immensely from the first. I was definitely more talkative during the group discussion and in the end, ended up becoming an indirect leader, according to my accessor. I feel I had good communication with my team members and put in a huge amount of effort and suggestions in order to make it successful. Some areas I may have lacked in were delegating tasks to other group members and asking for help. My accessor stated that he felt I had a great sense of numbers as I kept bringing up the budget. He also stated that he felt I contributed well to the group discussion, was respectful of others' ideas, had an air of confidence when I spoke, and wasn't afraid to use resources in order to clarify some of the questions the group had. After explaining to my accessor all the work I had done after the initial group meeting in order to ensure the success of the project, he was happily surprised that I was able to take on such a huge role and gave me strong advice about making sure as a leader, I am delegating tasks and not doing everything on my own in order to make sure my kindness is not taken advantage of. He emphasized to me that being a leader, there are times you need to be stern and if people aren't responding to your messages, email them. If that doesn't work, call them. He said do anything you need to in order to make sure that every group member is on task and is getting their part done, that way I am not overloaded in the end with doing everything on my own.

My Perception and the Perception of Others:
I believe my peers would say I am a team player who may be quiet during discussions but in the end, completes my part as well as helps others with their parts of projects. In my feedback from peer reviews, a lot of comments stated I was quiet but also very good at listening to people and making them feel heard. My peers also stated that I had a willingness to ask for assistance and was a voice of reason during brainstorming. In addition, my peers noted how I had great time management/priority skills because even though I am a full-time employee and a full time student, I was still able to complete my assigned tasks and even tasks of others at times. Hearing the feedback from my peers, I am surprised but also encouraged because a lot of the key factors my peer stated I had, are personality traits I want as a future leader. The one thing I feel I need to work on the most is being able to speak loud and proud with my ideas/opinions instead of quietly asking if they are okay. I think it is important to realize the skills you have and the skills you still need to develop in order to grow as an individual. Hearing how others view myself and comparing it to how i view myself now and who I want to be in the future, reassures me that I am headed in the right direction and gives me a path of where I need to go in order to improve and become the ideal leader I want to be in the future.
